Makassar – The Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) are strengthening their collaboration in the development of a Sharia Healthcare System in Indonesia through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The MoU was signed by the Rector of UMI, Prof. Dr. H. Hambali Thalib, S.H., M.H., on behalf of UMI, and representatives from MUI, as well as the Director of Ibnu Sina YW-UMI Hospital and LAKK MUI. This collaboration represents a strategic step toward promoting the development of a healthcare system that integrates healthcare services with Sharia values and principles.
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Muslim Indonesia (FK UMI) was represented at the event by its First Vice Dean, Dr. dr. Ida Royani, M.Kes., MHPE, FFRI.
This collaboration is expected to mark the beginning of the development of various programs supporting the implementation of a Sharia-based healthcare system in Indonesia, encompassing education, healthcare services, human resource development, and other relevant activities.
For FK UMI, participation in this collaboration is part of its commitment to continuously develop medical education and services that are not only academically excellent but also grounded in Islamic values. The synergy between educational institutions, hospitals, and Islamic organizations is expected to give rise to concepts and practices of Sharia healthcare that will benefit the community.
Through this collaboration between UMI, MUI, Ibnu Sina YW-UMI Hospital, and LAKK MUI, it is hoped that the development of the Sharia Healthcare System in Indonesia can be carried out in a more focused, collaborative, and sustainable manner.
This step also strengthens the position of UMI and the UMI Faculty of Medicine in contributing to the development of a national healthcare system that prioritizes professionalism, quality of service, and Islamic values.
