To Train Doctors Who Are Also Quran Memorizers, the UMI Faculty of Medicine Holds an Internal Hafiz and Hafizah Competition Covering Up to 30 Juz

Makassar, https://fk.umi.ac.id/">fk.umi.ac.id — The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) held an internal Hafiz–Hafizah Al-Qur’an Competition, which was attended by students from the classes of 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, as well as one participant from the Obstetrics and Gynecology (ObGyn) Specialist Physician Education Program (PPDS). The event, held today on the 5th floor of the FK UMI building, was attended by approximately 20 participants.

This competition is part of a series of activities in the 7th GEN RAMADAN program of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, which is routinely held as a forum for spiritual development, strengthening Islamic values, and character building among medical students with integrity.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Nasruddin Andi Mappaware, Sp.OG(K)., Subsp.Obginsos., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K, who in his remarks expressed appreciation for the students’ enthusiasm in preserving and memorizing the Qur’an amidst the demands of their medical education. He emphasized that the UMI Faculty of Medicine continues to foster the development of doctors who are not only scientifically and professionally competent but also possess spiritual depth and noble character.

The competition categories included 1–5 juz, 1–10 juz, 1–20 juz, and 1–30 juz. The judging process was conducted by a panel of judges competent in the field of Qur’an memorization, namely Ust. Dr. Agus Beddumalla, Lc, MA, as Head of the UMI Campus Qur’an Memorization Program, and Ust. Makmur Bakri, Lc, as Imam of the UMI Campus Mosque. The evaluation covered the fluency of recitation, accuracy of tajwid, eloquence, and proper etiquette in reciting the Qur’an.

The competition took place in a solemn yet spirited atmosphere, reflecting the participants’ dedication to maintaining their memorization despite their busy academic and clinical schedules. The participation of students from the specialist degree program served as an inspiration, demonstrating that engagement with the Qur’an can be sustained even at the highest levels of education.

Through this 7th GEN RAMADAN series, the UMI Faculty of Medicine hopes to continue strengthening the integration of academic knowledge and Islamic values, as well as to produce doctors with Qur’anic character who are professional and capable of providing humane healthcare services that are also acts of worship.
