Aceh Tamiang, December 11, 2025 — A joint medical team from the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI), the UMI Faculty of Medicine, AMDA, TBM 110, AMSA UMI, and the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s Second Wave Medical Team once again provided health services to flood-affected residents in Kuala Sempang on Thursday (December 11, 2025). The services were provided in a residential area near the banks of the Tamiang River from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. WITA.

This location remains one of the areas still in need of ongoing medical care, even though the floodwaters have begun to recede.

70 Residents Receive Health Services

During the event, the team provided general health checkups, wound care, and assessments of residents’ basic needs. Approximately 70 patients came to receive services.

The cases treated included:

  • ± 25 patients with lacerations, puncture wounds, and infected wounds
  • ± 45 patients with symptoms of diarrhea, skin infections, mild upper respiratory infections, gastritis, fatigue, and dehydration
  • Health assessments for residents still living near the riverbanks

The team also noted that many residents suffered injuries from debris and materials swept away by the flood, while cases of skin infections and respiratory tract disorders have begun to rise due to changes in environmental conditions.

Although the floodwaters have receded, access to residential areas has not yet fully returned to normal. Roads that were previously muddy are now extremely dusty, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of respiratory irritation for residents.

Several areas are also still littered with debris and residual mud, hindering the mobility of both residents and medical personnel.

Field assessments have identified several urgent needs that still must be met, including:

  • Clean water
  • Tarps and emergency tents
  • Blankets and clothing
  • Mosquito nets or mosquito repellent
  • Basic medicines and hygiene supplies

The medical team will continue to monitor the community’s health and coordinate with volunteers and relevant agencies for the distribution of further aid.
