Makassar, June 14, 2025 — On the occasion of its 33rd anniversary, the Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) has proven itself to be the primary driving force behind the advancement of private medical education in Indonesia. Serving as the host of the 22nd AFKSI National Conference (Munas) 2025, FK UMI kicked off the series of events with a high-profile international conference, held in grand style at Nusantara Hall, The Rinra Hotel Makassar, on Friday (June 13, 2025).
The conference was attended by 375 participants from across Indonesia and centered on the strategic theme: “Indonesian Private Medical Schools Collaborating to Improve the Quality of Medical Education to International Standards and Adapt to the Dynamics of Medical Education Regulations.”
The opening of the National Conference was marked by a ceremonial drumming performance by national figures, including: the Director General of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia representing the Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry (an UMI alumnus), AFKSI Central Board Chairman Dr. dr. Artha Budi Susila Duarsa, M.Kes., the Chair and Board of Trustees of the UMI Waqf Foundation, the Rector of UMI, and the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the PB AFKSI expressed deep appreciation: “The UMI Faculty of Medicine has not only been an exceptional host but has also created a monumental milestone with the International Conference and its 33rd anniversary. This is tangible proof of their capacity and reputation.”
Furthermore, Dr. Artha Budi emphasized that this National Congress serves as a triennial forum for reflection to unify the efforts of private medical faculties in facing the challenges of the times. “We are not only maintaining quality but also building trust and responding to the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. This is our strength.”
UMI Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Hambali Thalib, SH., MH., stated in his remarks that AFKSI’s trust in UMI’s Faculty of Medicine is a form of national recognition of the institution’s integrity and capabilities. “This is not merely an honor, but a call to continue leading the way in providing excellent and globally competitive private medical education.”
He also noted that the National Congress theme is highly relevant and reflects a shared commitment to fostering medical education that is competitive, excellent, and responsive to policy developments and global challenges.
“We warmly welcome all participants to the city of Makassar. May this forum strengthen our brotherhood and build strong collaboration for the advancement of private medicine in Indonesia,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Nasruddin AM., Sp.OG(K)., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K., added that this International Conference featured prestigious speakers, including the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs joining virtually from Medina, the Indonesian Director General of Health, and the Indonesian Director General of Forestry.
The presence of these national figures and the enthusiasm of the participants serve as proof that the UMI Faculty of Medicine is not merely a host but has now become a national benchmark for excellence in private medical education—one that is religious and progressive.
