Japan – On Thursday and Friday, February 20–21, 2025, the Medical Faculties of Hiroshima University and Shimane University hosted a Medical Exchange Program organized by AMSA UMI. This event aimed to strengthen ties between students from the UMI School of Medicine and the Hiroshima and Shimane University Schools of Medicine, as well as provide an opportunity for students from both universities to share knowledge about their respective medical education systems and medical practices.
The event was attended and directly supervised by several leaders and faculty members from the UMI Faculty of Medicine, who contributed to the success of the event. Among them were the Dean of UMI’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Nasrudin A.M, Sp.OG, Subsp.Obginsos, MARS, M.Sc., FISQua, AIFO-K; Vice Dean 2, dr. Shulhana Mokhtar, M.Med.Ed; the Third Associate Dean, Dr. dr. Armanto Makmun, M.Kes., FISQua, FISPH., FISCM., AIFO-K; as well as faculty members and heads of professional study programs, including Dr. dr. Shofiyah Latief, SpRad (K)-PRP, M.Kes, MHPE; Dr. Nesyana Nurmadillah, M.Gizi; Dr. Berry Erida Hasbi, Sp.B; Dr. Utomo Andi P, Ph.D; and Dr. Dian Fahmi Utami, M.Biomed.
The event began with a presentation delivered by Naura Fatimah, as the AMSA UMI Representative. During the event, Naura introduced the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Muslim Indonesia (FK UMI) and provided an overview of the AMSA UMI organization, which has been actively involved in various social and academic activities in the field of medicine.
The event then continued with a cultural session featuring a presentation on Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, particularly focusing on the traditional attire of South Sulawesi—the Baju Bodo—as well as various traditional Indonesian dishes. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about Indonesian culture.
The event was attended by 13 students from the UMI Faculty of Medicine and 3 students from the Shimane University Faculty of Medicine. This moment of camaraderie concluded with a group photo session as a keepsake.
Through this event, it is hoped that each student will gain a deep understanding of Japan’s healthcare system, which is known for its advanced medical infrastructure and high-tech capabilities. This discussion provided students with insights into how Japan addresses public health challenges and maintains an efficient healthcare system, while also allowing them to compare it with Indonesia’s healthcare system.
Through this event, it is hoped that each student will gain a deep understanding of Japan’s healthcare system, which is known for its advanced medical infrastructure and high-tech capabilities. This discussion provided students with insights into how Japan addresses public health challenges and operates an efficient healthcare system, while also allowing them to compare it with Indonesia’s healthcare system.
This event also opens opportunities for students to expand their international networks. By interacting directly with students and faculty from the Shimane University School of Medicine, participants can build relationships that hold potential for future collaboration—whether in education, research, or the medical profession—and gain a global perspective on health issues and the challenges faced by various countries. They can identify solutions that have been implemented in Japan and compare them with existing solutions in Indonesia, as well as explore ways to apply this knowledge within the Indonesian context, thereby fostering creative and innovative thinking in the field of global health.
