Tokyo, Japan – The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) continues to strengthen its commitment to developing international cooperation through a collaboration with the Asia Sustainable Business Cooperative in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, November 1, 2026. This initiative represents a strategic step toward expanding its network of international partnerships, particularly in the fields of medical education and academic collaboration between Indonesia and Japan.

This collaboration is grounded in a spirit of mutual understanding to build close and friendly relations between the two parties. Through this partnership, FK UMI aims to expand access to medical education for prospective international students while fostering sustainable academic collaboration.

Exploring the Admission of Japanese Medical Students

One of the main focuses of this collaboration is the development of opportunities for the admission and enrollment of Japanese nationals into the Medical Education Program at the UMI Faculty of Medicine.

Through this collaboration, the Asia Sustainable Business Cooperative will help facilitate institutional outreach, prepare prospective students, and assist with the application and enrollment processes for Japanese citizens interested in pursuing medical education at the UMI Faculty of Medicine.

Universitas Muslim Indonesia will provide the necessary academic information, including educational programs, student admission requirements, enrollment procedures, and other academic details to support this process.

The entire student admission process will continue to adhere to the University of Muslim Indonesia’s student admission policies, the university’s academic regulations, and applicable laws and regulations in Indonesia. Thus, this collaboration is expected to open access to information on medical education for prospective international students while expanding the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s reach on a global scale.

Expanding Educational and Academic Collaboration

In addition to developing international student admissions, the collaboration between the UMI Faculty of Medicine and the Asia Sustainable Business Cooperative also encompasses other opportunities for educational and academic collaboration.

The scope of this collaboration includes the exchange of academic information, joint research, academic visits, the organization of seminars and workshops, as well as various other educational activities mutually agreed upon.

This collaboration is expected to serve as a gateway for the development of broader academic relationships between higher education institutions in Indonesia and Japan. Through the exchange of knowledge, experience, and academic resources, both parties have the opportunity to develop various collaborative programs that support the advancement of education, research, and human resource capacity building.

Strengthening the Internationalization of Medical Education at UMI’s Faculty of Medicine

The Second Vice Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Rachmat Faisal Syamsu, M.Kes., stated that the implementation of this collaboration is part of the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s efforts to strengthen the institution’s internationalization through the development of cross-national partnerships.

Japan is a strategic partner in educational development and academic collaboration, given the extensive opportunities for cooperation in medical education, health research, and human resource development.

Through this partnership, the UMI Faculty of Medicine not only seeks to enhance academic mobility and expand its international research network but also to open opportunities for international students to gain access to medical education in Indonesia.

Moving forward, various technical implementations—including student recruitment and enrollment mechanisms, academic support, and the implementation of other collaborative activities—will be further developed through a mutual agreement among the parties.

This partnership is expected to serve as the foundation for building an increasingly close, productive, and sustainable cooperative relationship between Indonesia and Japan. Through this initiative, the UMI Faculty of Medicine continues to strengthen its position as a medical education institution focused on academic development and international networking.
