Makassar – The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) hosted a courtesy visit from a team from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cyberjaya, Malaysia, on Monday, October 19, 2026. The meeting with FK UMI leadership discussed plans to develop international cooperation in the fields of research, disaster management through international community service programs (PkM), and human resource development.

This meeting served as an opportunity to strengthen institutional ties between FK UMI and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The courtesy visit also opened the door for discussions regarding potential collaborations that could be developed to support improvements in the quality of medical education, research, and community service at the international level.

One of the areas discussed was research collaboration. This collaboration is expected to open opportunities for both institutions to develop joint research activities, exchange knowledge, and expand their academic networks. Through cross-border cooperation, research development in the fields of medicine and health is expected to contribute to scientific progress and address various public health challenges.

In addition to research, both parties also discussed the potential for collaboration in disaster response through international community service programs. This field plays a crucial role in strengthening the role of medical education institutions in supporting disaster-affected communities, particularly through the contribution of healthcare personnel, health education, and humanitarian activities tailored to on-the-ground needs.

Collaboration in disaster management is expected to serve as a platform for the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the two institutions. Through targeted collaboration, international community service programs have the potential to expand universities’ contributions to supporting disaster preparedness, health response, and post-disaster community recovery.

Another aspect discussed was human resource development. Cooperation in this area is expected to support capacity building for faculty and academic staff through the exchange of experiences, competency development, and various jointly designed academic programs. Strengthening human resources is a key element in improving the quality of medical education and broadening the international perspective of the academic community.

For the UMI Faculty of Medicine, this exploratory collaboration is part of an effort to expand partnerships with educational institutions abroad. The institutional relationships built through communication and joint discussions are expected to develop into well-planned, sustainable collaborative programs that provide tangible benefits for both institutions.

Through this meeting, the UMI Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cyberjaya, Malaysia, are expected to continue discussions toward the realization of international cooperation in the fields of research, community service in disaster management, and human resource development. This synergy is expected to further strengthen both institutions’ contributions to the development of medical education and the improvement of public health.
