UMI Faculty of Medicine Conducts a National Community Service Initiative Through an In-House Training Session on Updates in Emergency Obstetrics in Papua

The UMI Faculty of Medicine conducted a National Community Service (PkM) program through an in-house training session titled “Update on Obstetric Emergencies” at the Kwaingga Regional General Hospital in Keerom Regency, Papua, as part of an effort to enhance the competencies of doctors and midwives in managing obstetric emergencies.

Keerom, Papua – The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) conducted a National Community Service (PkM) activity through an in-house training session titled “Update on Obstetric Emergencies” at Kwaingga Regional General Hospital in Keerom Regency, Papua, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

The event, held in the Meeting Room of the KJSU Building at Kwaingga Regional General Hospital, was part of an effort to build the capacity of healthcare workers—particularly doctors and midwives—in managing various obstetric emergencies. The event ran from 9:00 a.m. WIT until completion.

During the event, the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Andi Nasrudin Mappaware, Sp.OG, Subsp. Obginsos, MARS, M.Sc, FISQua, AIFO-K, FISOG, served as a guest speaker to present material on “Updates in Obstetric Emergencies.”

This event served as a significant opportunity to share knowledge and experience in the field of obstetrics, while also supporting improvements in the quality of health care for mothers and infants. By updating their knowledge and competencies, healthcare professionals are expected to be better prepared to provide appropriate and prompt care in obstetric emergency situations.

This National Community Service (PkM) event also serves as a tangible demonstration of the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s commitment to fulfilling the Tridharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community service. It is hoped that the expertise and competencies possessed by the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s academic community will provide direct benefits, not only within the campus community but also throughout other regions of Indonesia.

The collaboration between the UMI Faculty of Medicine and Kwaingga District General Hospital in Keerom Regency is part of an effort to strengthen networks and improve the quality of human resources in the health sector. Through training and knowledge-sharing activities such as this, it is hoped that the capacity of healthcare workers to provide professional, patient-safety-oriented care will be enhanced.

The “In-House Training on Emergency Obstetrics Updates” in Keerom Regency is a concrete manifestation of the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s commitment to providing education, scientific knowledge, and community service that make a tangible impact on society.
