East Luwu – The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) continues to expand and strengthen its clinical education network through a partnership with I Lagaligo Wotu Regional General Hospital in East Luwu Regency and the Ibnu Sina YW-UMI Primary Teaching Hospital (RSPU). This strengthened collaboration was marked by a site visit and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
This initiative represents a strategic step in supporting the development of medical education while expanding clinical learning opportunities for Medical Professional Education Program (MPPD) students and Specialist Medical Education Program (MPPDS) students at the UMI Faculty of Medicine. This collaboration is expected to create a clinical education environment that is broader, more integrated, and aligned with the competency needs of students.
The event was attended by the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasrudin AM, Sp.OG(K)., Subsp.Obginos., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K; the Third Vice Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Muh. Wirawan Harahap, MARS, Sp.An.Ti., FISQua., AIFO-K; and the Chief Executive Officer of Ibnu Sina YW-UMI General Hospital, Dr. dr. Armanto Makmun. Representing I Lagaligo Regional General Hospital were the Director of I Lagaligo Regional General Hospital Wotu, Dr. Irfan, along with the management team and doctors.
The series of events was officially opened by the Regent of East Luwu, Irwan Bachri Syam, and was also attended by the Head of the East Luwu Regency Health Office, Dr. Helmy Kahar; the heads of all community health centers (puskesmas) throughout East Luwu Regency; as well as doctors and healthcare workers at Lagaligo I General Hospital. The presence of these various stakeholders demonstrates a shared commitment to building synergy among medical education institutions, hospitals, local governments, and healthcare facilities.
During the visit, the UMI Faculty of Medicine assessed the readiness of I Lagaligo Regional General Hospital as one of the clinical education sites in the UMI Faculty of Medicine network. The review covered the availability and variety of clinical cases, the resources of doctors and healthcare workers, facilities and infrastructure, the clinical learning environment, and the potential for integration between the students’ educational process and healthcare services at the hospital and networked health facilities in East Luwu Regency.
Through this collaboration, students in the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s Doctoral Professional Education Program are expected to gain more diverse clinical experience by directly encountering patients with a wide range of characteristics and addressing various public health issues. These experiences play a vital role in developing clinical competencies, communication skills, professionalism, interprofessional collaboration, and an understanding of the referral system and tiered healthcare services.
This collaboration also opens opportunities for the development of network rotations for students in the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s Specialist Medical Education Program (MPPDS). With the availability of more diverse learning opportunities, specialist medical students are expected to gain experience aligned with the competency requirements of their respective programs, while also supporting the development of specialty services at I Lagaligo Regional General Hospital.
In addition to clinical education, the collaboration between the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Ibnu Sina YW-UMI Hospital, and I Lagaligo Regional General Hospital is also expected to expand into various other areas, such as research, community service, improving the competencies of healthcare workers, continuing education and training, and the development of quality healthcare services. Thus, the established partnership benefits not only students but also healthcare workers and the community in East Luwu Regency.
The Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasrudin AM, expressed his appreciation for the trust placed by the East Luwu Regency Government and I Lagaligo Regional General Hospital in the UMI Faculty of Medicine and Ibnu Sina YW-UMI Hospital in establishing this collaboration. He hopes that this collaboration will serve as a strategic step toward improving the quality of medical education while also supporting the enhancement of human resources and healthcare services in East Luwu Regency.
Through this partnership, the UMI Faculty of Medicine continues to demonstrate its commitment to building a strong and sustainable clinical education network. The synergy with the I Lagaligo Wotu Regional General Hospital and the Ibnu Sina YW-UMI Hospital is expected to create a mutually supportive ecosystem of education and health services, thereby having a tangible impact on improving the quality of medical education and public health.
