MAKASSAR – The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to improving the quality of education and health care in Indonesia. This was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Buildings B and C on Tuesday (June 16, 2026), which coincided with the sacred occasion of 1 Muharram 1448 Hijri.This monumental event took place solemnly at the UMI Faculty of Medicine courtyard, UMI Campus II, Jalan Urip Sumoharjo, Makassar.
Buildings B and C are designed to complete the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s “Twin Towers” complex, a mega infrastructure project that will serve as a symbol of both academic progress and Islamic civilization in Eastern Indonesia.Attended by Foundation Leadership, University Administration, and Representatives from Various Faculties: This sacred ceremony was attended in person by senior officials from the UMI Waqf Foundation and the university. In attendance were the Chair of the UMI Waqf Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. H. Mansyur Ramly, SE., M.Si., along with the Chair of the UMI Waqf Foundation’s Executive Board, Prof. Dr. Hj. Masrurah Mokhtar, M.A.. The presence of these foundation leaders underscored their full support for the accelerated development of infrastructure at the UMI Faculty of Medicine. Representing the university administration was UMI Rector Prof. Dr. H. Hambali Thalib, SH., MH., accompanied by UMI’s Vice Rectors.
Furthermore, the unity and harmony of the UMI academic community were further evident with the presence of deans from various UMI faculties, who also offered their congratulations on this new achievement.
A Strategic Step Toward Internationalization: The Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasrudin Andi Mappaware, Sp.OG(K)., Subsp.Obginsos., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K., expressed deep gratitude in his remarks for the commencement of this construction project. According to him, the expansion of these facilities is not merely a physical construction project but a sustained effort to realize the vision of UMI’s Faculty of Medicine as an institution of excellence with global competitiveness. “The construction of Buildings B and C is a response to the need for academic spaces equipped with modern technology. With increasingly comprehensive facilities, we are optimistic that the UMI Faculty of Medicine will continue to produce professional doctors with Islamic character who are ready to compete on the international stage,” he said before the guests.
Modern Facilities Rooted in Islamic Values The UMI Faculty of Medicine Twin Building complex will integrate various state-of-the-art medical support facilities, including: -Integrated Laboratory: A modern research center to support faculty and student research. =IT-Based Lecture Halls: Adopting a smart classroom system to support problem-based learning methods. =Skill Lab & OSCE Center: A clinical simulation center meeting national and international standards. =Center for Islamic Studies: A dedicated space for reinforcing Islamic values, which are a hallmark of UMI.
Full Support for Academic Comfort UMI Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Hambali Thalib, SH., MH., along with the foundation’s leadership, expressed their highest appreciation to the entire academic community of the UMI Faculty of Medicine. The university and the foundation reaffirmed that the development of educational infrastructure will always be a priority to ensure comfort and improve the quality of the teaching and learning process. The timing of the event—1 Muharram 1448 H—was chosen in the hope that it would bring blessings, renewed enthusiasm, and a transition toward institutional governance that is far more advanced, adaptive, and dignified.The groundbreaking ceremony concluded with a joint prayer for the smooth progress of the construction, followed by a group photo session with foundation leaders, university administration, deans, and invited guests on the grounds of the building that will soon be transformed into a new icon of pride for the University of Muslim Indonesia.
