Makassar, UMI Faculty of Medicine – The event, which promoted a healthy lifestyle and social awareness, was a lively success, attended by approximately 1,300 participants from various segments of the academic community and alumni.
Attendees included representatives from the UMI Waqf Foundation, university leadership, deans, faculty members, support staff, students, alumni, and members of the general public, who filled the event venue starting early in the morning.
The Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasrudin AM, Sp.OG(K)., Subsp. Obginsos, MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K, stated that this event served not only as a platform for group exercise but also as an opportunity to strengthen bonds within the UMI community while raising public awareness about the importance of maintaining good health.
“Through this event, we aim to foster a sense of togetherness, educate the public about healthy lifestyles, and provide tangible benefits through blood donation, basic life support training, and health screenings,” he said.
In addition to the leisurely walk and fitness exercises, the UMI Faculty of Medicine also organized various community service activities that were accessible free of charge to CFD visitors. One activity that garnered significant attention was the blood drive, which aimed to collect dozens of units of blood from faculty members, staff, students, alumni, and members of the general public who met the eligibility criteria.
As part of its contribution to improving public health literacy, the UMI Faculty of Medicine also conducted Basic Life Support (BLS) training. Through this activity, participants received education and hands-on practice on first-aid techniques for emergency situations, particularly in cases of cardiac arrest before advanced medical care is available.
Public enthusiasm was high during the simulations, which were led directly by UMI Faculty of Medicine faculty members and students. Many participants took advantage of this opportunity to acquire basic skills that can be applied in daily life and have the potential to save lives.
In addition, free laboratory health screening services were available to the public. This event was supported by banking partners and the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s Associate Degree Program in Health Analysis, which provided basic health screening services as part of its community service initiatives.
The Chair of the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s 34th Anniversary Committee, Dr. Muh. Fauzul Azhim, M.K.K., explained that the fun walk and fitness exercises were part of a series of events commemorating the 34th anniversary, which had been underway for some time.
Previously, the UMI Faculty of Medicine successfully organized a Studium Generale and an Alumni Inspiration Class, featuring accomplished alumni and national health figures as guest speakers.
“This series of anniversary activities was designed not only as a celebration but also as a platform for education, inspiration, and strengthening the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s contribution to society. Alhamdulillah, all activities have received a very positive response,” he said.
Through various activities combining academic, health, social, and community aspects, the 34th anniversary of the UMI Faculty of Medicine serves as a tangible manifestation of the institution’s commitment to implementing the theme “UMI Faculty of Medicine Makes an Impact,” while also strengthening the role of the UMI Faculty of Medicine in supporting public health development and the cultivation of outstanding human resources.
