Makassar, https://fk.umi.ac.id/">fk.umi.ac.id — The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) once again held a series of events for the 7th Ramadan Energy Movement (GEN-R), which this year featured a more diverse lineup of religious and creative competitions, involving both university students and high school students from across South Sulawesi, Sunday (March 1, 2026).

The Fourth Vice Dean of FK UMI, Dr. Rachmat Faisal Syamsu, M.Kes., CIP., FISPH., FISCM., explained that GEN-R has entered its seventh year and has become a regular event every Ramadan.

“This is the 7th Ramadan Energy Movement. We abbreviate it as GEN-R because it’s more closely associated with medical terminology, in line with the nature of medicine,” he said.

Previously, the UMI Faculty of Medicine held an internal Hafiz and Hafizah competition exclusively for students. The competition was attended by approximately 21 participants from various graduating classes—including the classes of 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025—with memorization categories ranging from 1–5 juz, 1–10 juz, 1–20 juz, up to 30 juz.

According to Dr. Rachmat, the UMI Faculty of Medicine is known to have many students who have memorized the Qur’an—in fact, their number exceeds one hundred.

“About twenty participants took part yesterday, all committed to upholding the event’s spirit. This is part of our effort to foster a vibrant atmosphere for Quran memorizers within the UMI Faculty of Medicine,” he explained.

At the event’s climax on Sunday (March 1, 2026), GEN-R hosted a competition among high schools (SMA/MA) from Makassar City to South Sulawesi. Participants came from various regions such as Takalar, Gowa, and Pinrang. The competition categories included short religious talks (kultum), calligraphy, and poster design.

The short sermon category was the most popular, with nearly 40 participants from various high schools and Islamic high schools. This was followed by the poster design category with about 12 participants, and the calligraphy category, which had 10–12 participants. Overall, the total number of participants reached approximately 70 people across the three competition categories.

The announcement of the winners will take place just before the breaking of the fast and will culminate on Friday, March 6, 2026, during a communal iftar with the UMI Faculty of Medicine academic community. The winners will be officially invited to receive their awards.

The prizes prepared by the organizing committee are as follows: 1st place—Rp1,000,000 along with a trophy and certificate; 2nd place—Rp750,000; and 3rd place—Rp500,000. Honorable mention recipients will also receive a cash incentive in accordance with the guidelines published in the official flyer.

Furthermore, Dr. Rachmat explained that GEN-R is also part of the promotional strategy for recruiting new students for the Class of 2026. Unlike previous years, which involved visiting schools, this year the UMI Faculty of Medicine is directly inviting students to come to campus and get a closer look at the academic environment.

Participants had the opportunity to tour the lecture halls, sports facilities, and even the anatomy laboratory.

“The hope is that this will serve as a promotional effort while also introducing the UMI Faculty of Medicine and UMI in general. If anyone is interested in other faculties at UMI, we will certainly guide them accordingly. The main point is that we want them to get to know UMI and be interested in continuing their studies here,” he concluded.
