Pinrang – The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI), through the Asian Medical Student Association (AMSA) and the Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA) at FK UMI, conducted free health screenings and a mass circumcision event for residents of Mattiro Sompe Subdistrict, Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi, Sunday (Jan. 18).
The event, which took place at Langnga State Junior High School No. 1, was a form of community service and an implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the fields of health services and community empowerment. This event was also carried out in collaboration with the Pinrang Regency Government through the Health Office.
The Regent of Pinrang, H.A. Irwan Hamid, S.Sos., and the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Nasruddin Andi Mappaware, Sp.OG(K)., Subsp. Obginsos., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K., who were present at the event, expressed their appreciation for the contributions of UMI Faculty of Medicine students and medical staff in providing health services to the community.
According to him, this initiative not only directly helps meet healthcare needs but also raises public awareness of the importance of maintaining good health from an early age.
“This event is highly beneficial for the community and serves as a tangible manifestation of the dedication of students and medical staff to the residents. We hope that activities like this can continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis,” said Irwan Hamid.
Based on data from the organizing committee, 300 residents received free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, health consultations, ultrasounds for pregnant women, and health education. Meanwhile, 50 children participated in a mass circumcision event conducted by professional medical staff in accordance with safety and sterilization standards.
Also present accompanying the Regent of Pinrang were the Head of the Pinrang Regency Health Office, Dr. Dyah Puspita Dewi, M.Kes.; the Pinrang Regency Regional Inspector, A. Haswidy Rustam; the Head of the P2KBP3A Office, Dr. Ramli Yunus, M.Kes.; the Head of the Housing, Settlement, and Environment Department, Muhadir Muddin; the Head of the Transportation and Land Affairs Department, H. Bakhtiar; the Acting Head of the Regional Revenue Agency, Harumin; and the Mattiro Sompe Subdistrict Head, A. Ramlan Natsir.
Through this event, the UMI Faculty of Medicine reaffirmed its commitment to continue playing an active role in improving public health, while also strengthening synergy among educational institutions, health workers, and local government to realize inclusive and sustainable health services.
