Aceh Tamiang, December 11, 2025 — A joint medical team from the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI), the UMI School of Medicine, AMDA, TBM 110, and AMSA UMI resumed its humanitarian mission in the flood-affected areas of Aceh Tamiang on Wednesday (December 11, 2025). This round of healthcare services focused on the area around the Tamiang Bridge, one of the locations that suffered the most severe damage from the floods.

The team was on duty from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM WITA and was immediately met by many residents in need of medical care, particularly patients with post-flood wounds and infections.

During that day’s service, approximately 20 patients received treatment for wounds, with cases including:

  • Lacerations and abrasions caused by debris
  • Puncture wounds from nails and rusty sheet metal
  • Wounds with a high risk of infection
  • Nail extraction for traumatic injuries
  • Wound cleaning, minor debridement, and compression bandaging

In addition to wound care, the medical team also treated approximately 40 adult and pediatric patients with various common post-flood complaints, such as acute diarrhea, skin infections, coughs and colds, gastritis, and mild dehydration.

Access to the service site remains difficult. Several road sections are covered in thick mud and sharp objects such as nails and zinc shards. Slippery conditions also make the movement of supplies and medical personnel more challenging.

In addition, some residents are still living in temporary shelters with minimal facilities, while the availability of clean water remains very limited. The team noted that the area around the bridge had previously lacked adequate medical services.

Based on the field assessment, some of the items that residents still urgently need include:

  • Tarps and emergency tents
  • Mosquito nets or mosquito repellent
  • Blankets and suitable clothing

These items are considered essential to prevent further illness and support the residents’ recovery in the evacuation centers.

Arrival of the Second Wave of the Medical Team

That evening, the humanitarian team also carried out an additional task: picking up the second wave of the UMI Faculty of Medicine Medical Team, which had arrived in Medan. This second wave will strengthen healthcare services and expand the reach of aid in Aceh Tamiang.

All efforts were carried out in coordination with various parties on the ground to ensure that services and the distribution of supplies reached their intended targets.
