Kendari, November 28, 2025 — The Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) in Makassar once again held its 2025 Grand Social Service Event, which this year was centered in the city of Kendari and Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The event was opened by the Expert Staff to the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi, H. La Ode Fasikin, S.Pi., M.Si., representing the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi, together with the Mayor of Kendari, Dr. Hj. Siska Karina Imran, SKM, at the Bahteramas Hall of the Southeast Sulawesi Governor’s Office on Friday (November 28, 2025).
The Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Nasrudin Andi Mappaware, SpOG(K), MARS, M.Sc, FISQua, AIFO-K, noted that this community service initiative is a collaboration between the UMI Faculty of Medicine, the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government, the Kendari City Government, and the Konawe Regency Government. The series of activities in Kendari began with a health seminar covering three main topics: adolescent reproductive health, mental health, and degenerative diseases. The seminar was attended by approximately 800 participants from various groups, including women’s organizations and students from 40 high schools across Southeast Sulawesi.
In addition to the seminar, the UMI Faculty of Medicine held a campus promotion talk show, practice exams for prospective students, and free health services, including checkups for pregnant women, gynecological examinations, Pap smears, and IVA screenings. A team of specialist doctors from the UMI Faculty of Medicine was directly involved. The public also received Basic Life Support training at several locations.
The series of community service activities will continue in Konawe Regency, with a seminar focusing on stunting and tuberculosis. The culminating event will be held at SMAN 1 Unaaha, the alma mater of the UMI Faculty of Medicine Dean. This closing event will feature inspirational sessions, talk shows, and practice exams for local students.
The Grand Community Service Event is an annual initiative of the UMI Faculty of Medicine with an ever-expanding reach; previous events have been held in Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Ambon, and Ternate. In addition, the UMI Faculty of Medicine also routinely conducts community service activities every quarter in various regions of South Sulawesi.
