Medan, May 27, 2025 – The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI), Dr. dr. Nasrudin AM, Sp.OG(K), Subsp.Obginos., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K, accepted an invitation to serve as a speaker at the HOGSI III National Congress Symposium held at the Santika Hotel in Medan. With the title:
“Development of Obginsos Specialist Education in Higher Education Institutions,”
Dr. Nasrudin—who is also a member and executive board member of the South Sulawesi chapter of HOGSI, as well as a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob-Gyn) at the Hasanuddin University School of Medicine (FK UNHAS) and the UMI School of Medicine, presented on the topic “Strategies for Developing Obginsos Subspecialty Education in Indonesia.”

In his presentation, he revealed that out of nearly 130 medical schools in Indonesia, only 19 have currently been entrusted by the government to offer Obgyn specialty programs. Of that number, the UMI Faculty of Medicine is the only private medical school entrusted to offer OB/GYN specialty education in Indonesia.

Furthermore, of those 19 centers, only eight have launched subspecialty programs. And of those eight, only four are actively offering subspecialty education in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

“This underscores the importance of formulating a strategy so that not only public but also private medical faculties can offer OB/GYN specialist and subspecialist training programs. This is important for two main reasons: first, to improve the quality of subspecialty care by fostering stronger and more competent professionals; second, to encourage other institutions to develop the human resources needed to support the launch of OB/GYN specialty programs at their respective centers,” explained Dr. Nasrudin.

He also revealed that the UNHAS Faculty of Medicine, as one of the leading medical education institutions, is currently initiating the launch of a subspecialty program with five areas of concentration, including Social Obstetrics and Gynecology, in the near future.

The presence of Dr. dr. Nasrudin AM, Sp.OG(K), Subsp.Obginos., MARS., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K as a speaker at this national symposium underscores the strategic role of the UMI Faculty of Medicine in the development and advancement of medical education—both in specialist and subspecialist programs—in Indonesia, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of health services and education at the national level, both in his capacity as a member and executive of HOGSI and as an executive of AIPKI, AFKSI, and an assessor for LAM PTkes.
