Izumo, Japan – On Friday, February 21, 2025, the Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) and the Faculty of Medicine at Shimane University, Japan, signed an extension to their Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), marking a continuation of the close collaboration between the two institutions that has been ongoing since 2017 (8 years) in the areas of human resource development, education, and international medical research and publications. The event was held at the Faculty of Medicine, Shimane University, and was attended by key representatives from both medical faculties.
The MoA was signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Shimane University, Prof. Skunji Ishihara, M.D., Ph.D., and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at UMI, Dr. dr. Nasrudin A.M., Sp.OG, Subsp. Obginsos, MARS, M.Sc., FISQua, AIFO-K. This collaboration aims to strengthen cooperation in the development of Ph.D. programs for faculty members, as well as in joint academic and research/publication efforts between the two universities, and to open opportunities for student and faculty exchanges in the field of medicine.
The signing ceremony was attended by various key figures from the Shimane University School of Medicine, including Takeshi Taketani (First Associate Dean), Koutaro Wada (Vice Dean 2), Hiroko Kishi (Professor in the Department of Environmental Physiology), Yuki Fujita (Professor in the Department of Anatomy), and Kazumi Maniwa from the International Exchange Office. Representing UMI were Dr. Shulhana Mokhtar, M.Med.Ed. (Vice Dean 2), Dr. Armanto Makmun, M.Kes., FISQua, FISPH., FISCM., AIFO-K (Vice Dean 3), Dr. Shofiyah Latief, SpRad (K)-PRP, M.Kes., MHPE (Chair of the Professional Program), as well as several other faculty members and staff such as Dr. Nesyana Nurmadillah, M.Gizi (a UMI Faculty of Medicine lecturer currently pursuing a Ph.D program at Shimane), Dr. Berry Erida Hasbi, Sp.B, Dr. Utomo Andi P, Ph.D (Shimane Ph.D. alumni), and Dr. Dian Fahmi Utami, M.Biomed (a faculty member at the UMI Faculty of Medicine who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Hiroshima University)
This collaboration covers various fields, including student exchanges, joint research, and the development of a more innovative medical curriculum. Both parties hope that this collaboration will result in significant progress in medical education and research, as well as improve the quality of education for students at both universities.
Alhamdulillah, the UMI Faculty of Medicine and the Shimane University Faculty of Medicine have been collaborating for 8 years, and there are now 7 UMI Faculty of Medicine lecturers who are Ph.D. alumni of Shimane University, namely:

- Dr. M. Alim Jaya, Ph.D., SpKJ,

- Dr. Utomo Andi P, Ph.D
, as a Ph.D. alumnus.
Currently enrolled in the program are faculty member Dr. Nesyana Nurmadilla, M.Gizi, and two prospective faculty members who are currently pursuing or will pursue their Ph.D. programs at Shimane University: 1) Dr. Afifah Fatimah Azzahra/Dr. Fachan (in her fourth year) and 2) Dr. Acha Dharma (who recently graduated from the Ph.D. program)
At the end of the event, as a token of appreciation for the established collaboration, the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Shimane University, Prof. Takeshi Taketani, presented a commemorative gift to the leadership of the UMI Faculty of Medicine. This gift symbolizes the strong relationship that will continue to grow between the Faculty of Medicine at Shimane University and the Faculty of Medicine at UMI.
The signing of this MoA marks an important milestone in the journey toward the internationalization of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, which is committed to continuously expanding its network of academic cooperation in the field of medicine, as well as providing greater opportunities for students and staff to participate inthat contribute to realizing UMI’s and the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s vision of becoming a world-class university.
