UMI Successfully Guides the Establishment of Medical Schools at Public and Private Universities; Rector of UIN Raden Intan Lampung Explores Collaboration with UMI

Makassar, January 6, 2025 – Raden Intan Lampung State Islamic University (UIN) has expressed its hope that the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) will serve as a partner in the process of establishing the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Raden Intan Lampung State Islamic University (UIN).

This trust in UMI is based on the institution’s experience in supporting the establishment of medical schools at various universities in Indonesia, both public and private.

This request was conveyed during a visit by UIN Raden Intan Lampung leadership to UMI on Monday (January 6, 2025). The UIN Raden Intan delegation, led by Rector Prof. Wan Jamaluddin Z., M.Ag., Ph.D., along with several other officials, such as Prof. Andi Taher, Ph.D., Dr. Rika, and Prof. Dr. Mudjia Rahardjo, M.Si., was received by UMI’s leadership in the Faculty of Medicine conference room on Jalan Urip Sumohardjo, Makassar.

Among those from UMI who welcomed the guests were the Chair of the UMI Waqf Foundation Board, Prof. Dr. Hj. Masrurah Mokhtar, M.A.; First Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Dirgahayu A. Lantara, M.T., IPU., Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. H. Salim Basalamah, S.E., M.Si., and Vice Rector IV Dr. K.H. M. Ishaq Shamad, M.A., as well as several deans and other internal leaders.

In his remarks, UMI’s First Vice Rector, Prof. Dirgahayu A. Lantara, noted that UMI, which is celebrating its 71st anniversary this year, has extensive experience in managing faculties, including those in the health sciences. “UMI oversees 13 faculties and graduate programs, including health sciences such as the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, and Dentistry,” he explained.

Prof. Dirgahayu A. Lantara also reaffirmed UMI’s commitment to continuing to support collaborative efforts and mentoring with various institutions. “We are always open to cooperation aimed at mutual progress,” he added.

The Chair of the UMI Waqf Foundation, Prof. Masrurah Mokhtar, highlighted UMI’s role in mentoring other universities, including in establishing a Faculty of Medicine. “This mentoring is part of UMI’s commitment to contributing to national education and health,” she explained.

The Rector of UIN Raden Intan Lampung, Prof. Wan Jamaluddin Z., stated that the trust placed in UMI is based on its solid track record. He also emphasized that the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine is part of UIN’s grand vision to become an internationally recognized institution in the development of integrative and environmentally conscious Islamic studies by 2035.

"We want to meet the community’s need for competent healthcare professionals and make a broad contribution to the Muslim community," Prof. Wan Jamaluddin emphasized.

This visit is expected to serve as the first step in a collaboration between the two institutions to realize educational and health missions that benefit the nation.
