November 30, 2024, Batu Village, Pitu Riase Subdistrict, Sidrap Regency – The Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) of the University of Muslim Indonesia (UMI) and AMDA UMI once again demonstrated their dedication to community service through the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s Social Service Program, known as ACTH x CIRCLE. This event, held at the Barukku Community Health Center in Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi, aimed to improve public health and raise awareness. Involving medical students, healthcare workers, and various stakeholders, the event successfully provided tangible benefits to the hundreds of participants in attendance.
The series of events began on Thursday, November 28, 2024, with an advance team departing to prepare the venue and ensure the smooth running of the activities. On Friday evening, the main group—including the team of doctors, students, and other organizers—arrived at the event site in Sidrap. With thorough preparation, the entire team worked hard to ensure every aspect of the event ran smoothly.
The highlight of the event took place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, beginning with the official opening ceremony at the Barukku Community Health Center Hall. The event was opened with remarks by the Chair of the ACTH X CIRCLE Social Service Committee, Muh. Fadel; AMSA-UMI Representative Naura Fatimah; followed by the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasrudin Andi Mappaware, Sp.OG(K)., Mars., M.Sc., FISQua., AIFO-K, who delivered a warm welcome, as well as remarks from the Head of the Barukku Community Health Center, H. Agus, S.Kep., Ns, the Secretary of the Pitu Riase Subdistrict, Mansyur, S.Pd, M.Ap, and the Chair of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) of Sidrap Regency, Dr. Syafruddin, Sp.B., who also officially opened the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s Community Service event. Their remarks emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing public health.
The main activities covered three aspects: mass circumcision, health screenings, and health education. The mass circumcision successfully served 25 children, providing them with safe and comfortable medical care. The health checkups were equally significant, with a total of 263 community members receiving medical services at various specialist clinics, such as general, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, internal medicine, and surgery.
Meanwhile, the health education session—which covered the topic “Preventing Stunting in Pregnant Women and Infants During the First 1,000 Days of Life”—successfully drew the attention of more than 50 participants from the surrounding community. This session was led by experts: Dr. Gina Isni Djanuaresty Iskandar, Sp.OG, who presented the first topic, and Dr. Sidrah Darma, Sp.A, who covered “The Risk of Stunting in Pregnant Women,” providing practical information to help the community understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
This event not only provided healthcare services but also left a profound educational impact on the community. Attendees felt supported not only physically but also gained new insights into the importance of maintaining their families’ health.
The event concluded with an evaluation and the sanitization of the venue, followed by a time of fellowship at Puncak Bila. A spirit of togetherness was evident among the organizing committee members and participating doctors. The series of social activities began with a congregational Maghrib prayer, followed by a shared dinner—a clear sign of the event’s success as a tangible expression of service to the community.
Through this ACTH x CIRCLE Social Service initiative, AMSA UMI and AMDA UMI have strengthened their commitment to contributing to the well-being of the community, particularly in remote areas. The Chair of the Organizing Committee, Muh. Fadel, expressed his hope: “We are very grateful that this event went smoothly. Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to help even more people, because health is everyone’s right.”
