The Faculty of Medicine (FK) at the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) is organizing various activities to welcome the incoming class of 2024. One of these is the “Malam Silaturahmi” event, held annually as a forum to strengthen ties between the UMI FK academic community, new students, and their parents or guardians.

For the Class of 2024, the Gathering Night took place at the Sandeq Ballroom, Claro Hotel, on AP Pettarani Street in Makassar, on Sunday, October 28, 2024. The event was attended by UMI leadership, faculty, staff, parents of new students, and UMI Faculty of Medicine students.

On this occasion, the incoming class of 2024 presented various artistic performances, such as nasyid (Islamic chants), vocal group performances, a traditional costume exhibition, and traditional dances. The event also included the induction of the new students as members of the UMI Faculty of Medicine family.

UMI’s Acting Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Hambali Thalib, SH, MH, stated that this event was not merely a gathering but also a platform to showcase the achievements of the UMI Faculty of Medicine. He emphasized the importance of upholding the trust placed in the university and producing high-quality graduates in line with UMI’s vision: “Knowledge in Action, Scientific Practice, Noble Character, and High Competitiveness.”

“Welcome and thank you for joining the extended family of UMI Medical School students. We also extend our gratitude to the parents who have entrusted UMI to guide their sons and daughters in achieving their aspirations,” he said.

The Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasruddin A. Mappaware, Sp.OG(K)., MARS., M.Sc., FISQUA, explained that the UMI Faculty of Medicine routinely involves parents in academic activities, including this gathering, as a demonstration of its commitment. “UMI Faculty of Medicine students come from Sabang to Merauke, demonstrating the trust that the Indonesian public places in the UMI Faculty of Medicine,” he said.

Dr. Nas added that the UMI Faculty of Medicine consistently admits students through the Quran Memorizers scholarship program, which is approved by the UMI Waqf Foundation and the Rector. This year, the UMI Faculty of Medicine awarded scholarships to six students who have memorized the Quran, including one student from Palestine and five from Indonesia.
