An exhibition badminton match between the leadership of the University of Muslim Indonesia (UMI) and its banking partners proved to be an exciting event. The event was held at the badminton court of the UMI Faculty of Medicine (FK), on Urip Sumoharjo Street in Makassar, on Monday (July 8, 2024).
This badminton exhibition was organized to commemorate the Prophet’s Hijrah in the year 1446 Hijri and to celebrate UMI’s 70th anniversary. Additionally, the match served as an expression of UMI’s solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle.
The UMI team was seen wearing T-shirts featuring the Palestinian flag with the words “Free Palestine.” UMI leaders showed great enthusiasm as they competed against executives from several banks, including BSI, BRI, BNI, Mandiri, and Bank Sulselbar.
UMI Rector Prof. Sufirman Rahman explained that this badminton exhibition aimed to strengthen UMI’s ties with its banking partners. “This exhibition is also part of a series of events celebrating UMI’s 70th anniversary,” said Prof. Sufirman Rahman in an interview with Tribun-Timur.com.
Prof. Sufirman added that these exhibitions will continue with various partners, underscoring UMI’s collaboration and cooperation with various parties, including the banking sector. "As an educational institution committed to da’wah, UMI also voices its support for Palestinian independence and its belief that global oppression must be eradicated," he added.
UMI’s Vice Rector V, Prof. Hatta Fattah, explained that the exhibition features five competitions. “This isn’t about winning or losing. We designed these five competitions to strengthen our cooperation with various parties,” explained Prof. Hatta.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the UMI Waqf Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Prof. Mansyur Ramli, highlighted that the main theme of this exhibition is “Free Palestine.” “We pray and call on everyone to stop the genocide in Palestine,” said Prof. Mansyur.
