FK-UMI Hosts the 5th SPINAL Event in Conjunction with UMI’s 70th Anniversary and FK’s 32nd Anniversary

On June 28–29, 2024, the Alumni Association (IKA) of the Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK-UMI) held its 5th Silahturahmi and Periodic National Scientific Meeting (SPINAL) at the Mahoni Ballroom of the Claro Hotel in Makassar. This event was held in conjunction with UMI’s 70th anniversary and FK-UMI’s 32nd anniversary.

This year’s SPINAL event was titled “International Symposium and Workshop on Aging and Healing” with the theme “Enhancing Interdisciplinary Knowledge to Advance Health and Healthcare.”

The Rector of the University of Muslim Indonesia (UMI), Prof. Dr. H. Sufirman Rahman, SH., MH., opened the event together with the Chair of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) Central Board, Dr. dr. Mohammad Adib Khumaidin, Sp.OT., Vice Chair of the IDI Central Board in Makassar, Dr. dr. H. Muh. Khidri Alwi, M.Kes., MA., the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasruddin A. Mappaware, Sp.OG(K)., MARS., and the Chair of the UMI Faculty of Medicine Alumni Association (IKA FK-UMI), Dr. Antariksa Saputra W., Sp.PK.

In his remarks, Dr. dr. Mohammad Adib Khumaidin, Sp.OT., Chair of the IDI Central Board, congratulated the University of Muslim Indonesia on its 70th anniversary and the UMI Faculty of Medicine on its 32nd anniversary. He also highlighted the significant contributions of UMI Faculty of Medicine alumni to the Indonesian Medical Association and how they have demonstrated exceptional character in their professions.

“Currently, we are facing extraordinary dynamics in the healthcare sector, and I am confident that UMI has successfully produced high-quality professionals with strong integrity to build a better Indonesia,” he continued.

UMI Rector Prof. Dr. H. Sufirman Rahman, SH., MH., stated that UMI is currently actively accelerating its implementation of the three pillars of higher education to achieve its vision of becoming a world-class university. “UMI’s leadership has consistently fulfilled its mandate by focusing on programs aligned with UMI’s vision and mission, and is aiming to become a world-class university this year,” he explained.

He also expressed his hope that the entire UMI community—including leadership, faculty, staff, students, and alumni—will continue to work in synergy and unite to advance our beloved alma mater.

The Chair of the UMI Faculty of Medicine Alumni Association (IKA FK-UMI), Dr. Antariksa Saputra W., Sp.PK., reported that this spinal event is a biennial gathering featuring social gatherings and various other activities. “This symposium and workshop not only have scientific value but also emphasize the values of camaraderie and a commitment to mutual support. FK-UMI alumni are now spread not only across South Sulawesi but also throughout all provinces in Indonesia, from east to west,” he explained.

He expressed his gratitude to all parties involved—from university leadership and the leadership of the UMI Faculty of Medicine to stakeholders, sponsors, the organizing committee, alumni, and participants—for their contributions that ensured the event’s success.

The event continued with the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Ibnu Sina YW-UMI Hospital, and the Central Mamuju Regency Government.
