The Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) held the culmination of its 70th anniversary celebrations on Sunday, June 23, 2024. The Chair of the Anniversary Committee, Vice Rector V, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh Hattah Fattah, MS, stated that the theme of this year’s anniversary is “Enlightened Consistently to Excel.” This theme addresses how UMI can maintain its existence and continue to excel. A wide range of activities has been taking place since March 2024. Among them were: Sport Science (sports activities in various disciplines such as futsal, badminton, volleyball, etc.), a Seminar on the Future of Education, a blood donation drive at Ibnu Sina and Gigi Hospitals, and a health walk involving all faculties across UMI.
During this health walk, the UMI Faculty of Medicine (FK) promoted the theme “Free Palestine.” The concept was reflected in everything from the costumes worn and the chants to the Palestinian flags. The Dean of UMI’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Nas, stated, “This is an excellent opportunity for us to raise awareness about the ongoing suffering in Palestine since October 2023, which has claimed the lives of some 35,000 people.” “At the very least, we are demonstrating our opposition to occupation and demanding Palestinian independence. May this situation there end soon. Barakallah,” he concluded.
