Makassar, https://fk.umi.ac.id/">fk.umi.ac.id - Tuesday, May 7, 2024, A team from the Directorate of Institutional Affairs of the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti) conducted a field evaluation at the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of the University of Muslim Indonesia (UMI) for the launch of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialization Program. The field evaluation team was warmly welcomed by the Chair of the YW-UMI Advisory Board, the Chair of the YW-UMI Executive Board, the Rector of UMI, the Head of LLDIKTI IX, and the Dean of FK-UMI, along with faculty members and administrative staff of FK-UMI in the Prof. dr. H. Abd. Razak Datu, Ph.D. Auditorium on the 2nd floor of FK-UMI

The on-site evaluation team consisted of the Coordinator of Institutional Development at PT DIKTI, Deny Kurniawan, M.Sc., Ph.D.; a representative from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Akemat, SKP.,M.Kep., the Director of Accreditation at LAM-PTKes, Dr. Soetrisno, MA., the Chair of the Education Division of the Indonesian Medical Council, Prof. dr. Mariatul Fadilah, and DIKTI Evaluator Prof. dr. Dany Hilmanto.

Also present were Lingga Kresna Adiputra from the DIKTI Institutional Affairs Directorate; DIKTI Evaluation Team member Dr. Diah Kurnia Mirawati; AIPKI representative Dr. Maftuchah Rochmanti; ARSPI representative Dr. Rita Rogayah; IDI’s Dr. dr. Amir Syafruddin, and Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Council, Prof. dr. Andon Hestiantoro.

The Head of LLDikti Region IX Sultanbatara, represented by the Coordinator of Institutional, Academic, and Student Affairs, Dr. Lusman, MM, stated that this joint evaluation team was formed to directly assess the readiness of the UMI Faculty of Medicine regarding the proposal for specialist programs, curriculum review, and human resources (HR).

He explained that the Higher Education Service Agency (LLDikti) had consulted on UMI’s proposal last February; it was subsequently signed off to be forwarded to the Ministry of Health, and a recommendation for the program’s launch was eventually issued.

“If the official decree authorizing the program’s opening is issued, UMI will become the first private university to offer the Obstetrics and Gynecology program. We hope the decree will be issued this May, and this will certainly be a source of pride for us at LLDikti IX,” he said during a press conference at the UMI Faculty of Medicine in Makassar.

In his opening remarks, UMI Rector Prof. Dr. H. Sufirman Rahman, S.H., M.H., noted that there is an overall shortage of 72,000 specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology; UMI is stepping in to address this need.

The Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. H. Nasrudin Andi Mappaware, Sp.OG(K), MARS, M.Sc., FISQua, stated that the UMI Faculty of Medicine began the process of establishing the Specialist Program four years ago. He also explained that out of 113 medical faculties in Indonesia, only 17 universities have successfully launched specialist degree programs—and, he noted, all of them are public universities (PTN).

“If UMI succeeds in launching this program, it will be the 18th such program, and we will be the first private university in Indonesia to do so,” continued the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine.

He explained that there are several requirements that are indeed very difficult to meet, including the need to have at least five specialist doctors serving as faculty members.

“While the requirement used to be a minimum of five specialist doctors, the criteria have now been relaxed. This is because within the field of specialization, there are further subspecialties. This is the most important aspect,” he said.

He explained that many institutions must undergo an evaluation to open these specialist degree programs, as the assessment considers not only the university itself but also its facilities and infrastructure, as well as its human resources. UMI’s advantage lies in its ownership of Ibnu Sina Hospital.

According to him, generally, after a field observation, the team from LLDikti will discuss the evaluation results directly. He hopes that the official decree authorizing the opening of the program will be issued by the second week of May, he concluded.
