Makassar, fk.umi.ac.id -- The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Medicine at the Indonesian Muslim University (FK UMI) has launched its latest initiative, “Get to Know FK UMI.” Through this program, participating high school students can experience what it’s like to be a medical student for a day.
"Get to Know FK UMI" was held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, and was attended by high school students from Makassar, Gowa, and Maros. The event began in the morning and was officially opened by the Dean of FK UMI. In his opening remarks, the Dean of FK UMI, Dr. dr. Nasrudin A. M., Sp.OG, Subsp.Obginsos, MARS, M.Sc, FISQua, expressed his appreciation for the program initiated by the UMI Faculty of Medicine Student Executive Board (BEM FK UMI), hoping that the program would increase high school students’ enthusiasm for the UMI Faculty of Medicine. Following the opening ceremony, participants were taken on a tour to see and experience firsthand what it’s like to be a medical student at UMI’s Faculty of Medicine. The tour began with a visit to the lecture halls—which feature a theater-style classroom layout—as well as the integrated laboratory, dry and wet anatomy labs, research laboratories, the computer-based testing (CBT) room, and the Sports Center on the 6th floor. In addition to touring the campus facilities, the students were also invited to observe training sessions by the UMI Faculty of Medicine’s Medical Assistance Team 110 (TBM 110) and badminton practice by medical sports students.
After touring the campus facilities and witnessing various student activities firsthand, the students were given a special opportunity to visit the Senate Chamber and the Dean’s Office of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, where they were invited to ask questions directly to the leadership of the UMI Faculty of Medicine.
“I’m so happy and moved to have this rare opportunity. Becoming a doctor is my dream and also my parents’ hope. Today, I saw and experienced firsthand what it’s like to be a student at the UMI Faculty of Medicine. My heart is now set on choosing the UMI Faculty of Medicine,” said Amaliah, a “Get to Know” participant.
Andi, another “Get to Know” participant, remarked, “My uncertainty about which school to choose was finally resolved today. With such impressive and comprehensive facilities, and the upperclassmen being so humble, I’m now confident in choosing the UMI Faculty of Medicine. As soon as I get home, I’ll immediately tell my parents about my decision.”
