Makassar, fk.umi.ac.id - A team of students from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Muslim Indonesia (FK UMI) has achieved a remarkable feat at the Regional Medical Olympiad (RMO), held at the Faculty of Medicine, Tadulako University, Palu, on September 12–17, 2023.

The RMO is an annual nationwide competition that brings together medical students from across Indonesia, divided into six fields of knowledge: cardiology, respiratory medicine, musculoskeletal medicine, tropical infectious diseases, gastroenterology and hepatology, reproductive urology, and neurology and psychiatry.

This event was organized by the Indonesian Medical Student Senate Association (ISMKI).

Each RMO participating team must go through three rounds: the preliminary round, the semifinal round, and the final round. The preliminary round consists of a Stage 1 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) exam and an Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE). The first-stage MCQ exam tests participants’ knowledge based on the provided syllabus, while the OSPE assesses their practical skills related to basic sciences such as anatomy, histology, and diagnostic imaging.

Next, in the semifinal round, participants must take the second-stage Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) exam and the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), which assesses their ability in taking a medical history, physical examination, management, and prescription writing—or the Objective Structured Practical Identification (OSPI) for the tropical infectious diseases category. If they successfully advance from the semifinal round, the participants will compete again in the final round, which consists of the Student Oral Case Analysis and Public Health (SOCA-PH) exam and the Speed and Accuracy Competition (LCT). The team with the highest score will be declared the winner.
