A team of UMI Faculty of Medicine students consisting of Syarifah Fatimah Nissatuljannah (Class of 2020), Andi Irma Yuniar, and Nurul Wahidah Yasid (Class of 2019), emerged as winners in the “Life Science” category at the 2022 World Youth Invention and Innovation Award (WYIIA) research competition held at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN) in Yogyakarta on August 26, 2022.
Andi Irma Yuniar, a member of the UMI Faculty of Medicine team in Makassar, explained on Sunday that in addition to winning the championship, the UMI Faculty of Medicine team also received a special award, the “Doza Srekja Macedonia Special Award,” from the Republic of Macedonia.
“This serves to gauge the credibility and quality of UMI Medical Faculty students. Equally important, it will be beneficial for preparing the UMI Medical Faculty for future accreditation toward excellence,” said UMI Medical Faculty Dean Dr. dr. Nasruddin, Sp.OG(K) MARS, MSc.
WYIIA 2022 is an international competition organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA). This year’s event was affiliated with UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, which served as the host.
The culmination of the event and the announcement of the winners took place during the Awarding Ceremony at UIN Yogyakarta.
The UMI Faculty of Medicine team presented a research project titled “The Potential of Sumbawa Herbal Oil-Based Oleogel as a Burn Wound Dressing.”
This research aims to explore the potential of Sumbawa oil as the main ingredient in an oleogel product that can be used as a burn wound dressing.
