Tuesday, March 21, 2023. The Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA) held an inauguration ceremony for its new chair at the UMI Faculty of Medicine in Makassar and presented a certificate of recognition for international service from the international chair of AMDA, Prof. Dr.Shigeru Suganami—represented by the Chair of AMDA Indonesia—to the academic community of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, including faculty and students who have been directly involved as part of the UMI Faculty of Medicine and AMDA disaster relief teams during past natural disasters
In attendance were the Chair of AMDA Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Andi Husni Tanra, SpAn(K), Ph.D.; AMDA Indonesia members Prof. Dr. Syarifuddin Wahid, SpPA(K), SpF, Ph.D.; and Prof. Agnes. On that occasion, the Dean of the UMI Makassar Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Nasrudin, A.M., SpOG(K), MARS, M.Sc., was inaugurated as the Chair of AMDA UMI Makassar by the Chair of AMDA Indonesia, Prof. dr. Andi Husni Tanra.
In his remarks, the Chair of AMDA Indonesia explained that AMDA is a non-profit humanitarian organization, free from partisan political interests and dedicated purely to humanitarian causes. AMDA was originally founded by Prof. dr. Shigeru Suganami, Ph.D., in Japan, who had previously been a member of AMSA (Asian Medical Student Association) at the medical school level in Japan. He currently serves as Chairman of AMDA International. Currently, AMDA has a presence in more than 30 countries worldwide. Prof. Husni continued by noting that the UMI Faculty of Medicine has, over the past several years, assisted in AMDA’s development and worked alongside the organization in humanitarian efforts. In response to various natural disasters in Indonesia—such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and others that have struck Lombok, Palu, Mamuju, Gowa, and Makassar—AMDA and the UMI Faculty of Medicine have always worked side by side without expecting anything in return. All efforts are purely for humanitarian purposes.
The newly elected Chair of AMDA, who is also the Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, stated in his remarks that, God willing, he will remain committed to humanitarian efforts. He quoted (QS. Ar-Rahman; 60), “Hal Jaza ul ihsan illa ihsan,” which means there is no reward for kindness except kindness itself. “Allah always rewards us with more than what we give,” he added. He concluded his remarks by expressing his deepest gratitude to AMDA for the trust it has placed in the UMI Faculty of Medicine all this time.
