The Faculty of Medicine (FK) at the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) hosted the National Youth Health Agent (NYHA) event. NYHA is a program organized by the Association of Medical Student Senates (ISMKI) in collaboration with UNICEF. It was held at the Aljibra Auditorium on Friday, February 10, 2023.
The Dean of the UMI Faculty of Medicine, Nasrudin Andi Mappaware, said that this event brought together 20 community health centers (Puskesmas) and volunteers. “A total of 232 volunteers attended, representing various universities in the Makassar region, along with 40 young doctors,” he said. Also in attendance was the Deputy Coordinator of the Makassar City Health Department, as well as heads of community health centers or their representatives.
According to Dr. Nas, the event’s theme focused on “Complete Basic Immunization, COVID-19 Vaccination, 3M Practices, and Misinformation.” The goal was to increase students’ knowledge and awareness regarding COVID-19 and immunization.
“We also want to increase student participation in raising public awareness about COVID-19 and immunization, as well as combating misinformation circulating in the community regarding COVID-19 and immunization,” he said.
Dr. Nas explained that the volunteers, who have received training materials, will carry out field activities at 45 community health centers (Puskesmas) in the city of Makassar. “They will conduct outreach sessions on immunization, COVID-19 vaccination, and the 3M behaviors,” he said.
